Responsibilities
The SVP Controller is responsible for accurate reporting of the financial results of NBCU's broadcast network NBC and television production studios; Universal Television, Universal Cable Productions and First Run. The role will report directly into the CFO & EVP of NBC Entertainment and will work closely with the CFO's and FP&A departments of the respective studios.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Ensure that TV costs are properly captured and capitalized in accordance with GAAP and revenue is recognized in accordance with ASC-926 and NBCU accounting policies.
Responsible for acquired program accounting for NBC; ensuring recognition, amortization and impairment in accordance with ASC-920.
Responsible for the day to day operations for the General Ledger; hierarchy maintenance, accounts payable, credit card programs and payroll.
Oversee accounting for all Studio & Network balance sheet and ensure completeness, accuracy and timely recording.
Responsible for all elements of the quarterly close process and financial reporting and analysis, including: submission of all corporate reporting, preparation of management balance sheet package and reviews, and completion of all account reconciliations.
Oversee external and internal auditors, including mid-year and year-end financial audits, Sarbanes Oxley, Participation & Residuals and periodic internal operational/financial audits.
Manage the recruitment, training, development and individual performance of all direct reports and extended team.
Ensure that the team develops and maintain productive working relationships with the FP&A teams, Operations, Participation & Residuals, Corporate Accounting & Tax and ensure that they are kept informed of any and all relevant matters.
Liaise with Business Affairs and Legal to resolve issues with contracts to ensure the deals and revenues and costs are properly reflected and reported each month and quarter close.
Supervise the continued development and enhancement of the accounting and finance sub-systems to meet the needs of the organization and to support new accounting controls, policies and guidelines.
Lead projects and other initiatives to improve the control environment, accounting process consistency and efficiency.
Qualifications/Requirements
Minimum of 12 years of relevant accounting/controller management experience with a track record of leading and developing high-performing teams.
CPA required.
Demonstrated background and knowledge of US GAAP.
Desired Characteristics
Strong organizational, leadership and customer service skills with great attention to detail; proactive with team and internal clients and able to consistently meet deadlines.
Strong relationship building and communication skills and the ability to effectively partner with all levels of internal and external clients.
Demonstrated knowledge of various financial applications, systems, their functionality, workflow, automated controls, and associated facilitation of data consolidation and reporting. Comfortable with learning new systems and facilitating adaption of new system functionality to support changing business requirements.
SAP/BW experience highly desirable.
Experience at a Big Four accounting and auditing firm.
Experience in the entertainment/media space, including television distribution and production accounting a plus.
Technical Accounting expertise a plus.
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance or MBA.
