Working under the direction and supervision of the Director of Medical & Performance, the Head Athletic Trainer will deliver day-to-day sports medicine operations for Orlando Pride. The role will provide injury prevention strategies, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation to player’s medical problems. This role will report into the Director of Medical & Performance and collaborates closely with the club’s Chief Medical Officer, Assistant Athletic Trainer, Physical Therapists, Head of Sports Science, Head Coach and Vice President of Soccer Operations & Sporting Director.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- In close collaboration with the Chief Medical Officer, team physicians and the Director of Medical & Performance: design, plan and implement a health, performance, and wellness strategy, including:
- Regular physical assessments of athletes.
- Periodic tests and wellness assessments.
- Implement a complete model of athlete care that takes a holistic, 360-degree approach to both individual and team wellness.
- In collaboration with the Director of Medical & Performance oversee the acquisition and integration of cutting-edge medical technologies into the medical department, to help advance the department’s service delivery capabilities.
- Work collaboratively as part of a multi-disciplinary team including Chief Medical Officer, team physicians, Director of Medical & Performance, athletic trainers, physical therapists, dieticians, massage therapists, sports scientists, chiropractors, performance coaches, and interns.
- Create a culture and environment of high performance, commitment, and excellence through education, collaboration, feedback, and continual learning.
- Coordinate internal communications through the appropriate channels, including collecting, collaborating, preparing, and delivering reports on departmental functions.
- Lead, develop and deliver athletic training services to Orlando Pride players, including but not Limited to primary on-field and secondary off-field injury evaluation, first aid and emergency care, utilize therapeutic modalities for injury treatment, collaborate in the design of rehabilitation.
- Ensure the electronic documentation of accurate first report of injury, physician diagnosis, player assessments, player treatments, and return to play dates.
- Complete all administrative work pertaining to the player’s medical insurance.
- Comply with all NWSL standards, including compiling required reports, recording and documenting injured players and player treatments, participating in activities and programs as required by NWSL, and organizing physical examinations.
- Work closely with the Chief Medical Officer, Director of Medical & Performance, and physical therapists to provide updates on players’ health and seek medical advice and assistance when necessary.
- Maintain a high level of confidentiality as it pertains to information surrounding the players and the club.
- Supervise and develop assistant athletic trainers and interns.
- Demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills required to work effectively with players, coaches, colleagues and league staff.
- Seek out and actively participate in continuing education and professional development opportunities in the field of sports medicine.
- Order, maintain, and keep an inventory of supplies and clinical equipment.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized athletic training room and clinic.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS

- NATABOC (or CATA) Certified Athletic Trainer, in good standing.
- NATA membership.
- Licensed to practice in the state of Florida.
- CPR Certified by the American Red Cross or American Heart Association.
- Possess personal professional liability insurance.
- Ability to attain and maintain SafeSport certification.
- Ability to pass a background check.
- Experience working with elite athletes in a high-performance environment.
